Young never shied from difficult subject and this work speaks directly to that. And though stark images dominate the discernible wood grained surface of the painting, the artist has also embarked on an exploration of motion. The uplifted arms and arched backs of figures in chains curve in synchronous movement from the center, outward to a sculptural hand hewn frame. The work was featured in the 2006 retrospective at the Boca Raton Museum of Art and also included on the exhibition card announcement.
