It is the omnipresent gaze of the status quo, with its unblinking ocular pressure to conform, that  reveals us to ourselves. In this refined early work of line and space from Young’s masterpiece Miami installation, the eye serves as both lens and mirror, seeing all sans response, while also  reflecting the unfiltered human experience before it. “ One eye sees, the other feels, ” stated  Paul Klee and here, Young’s work seamlessly tracks that sentiment – fashioning the figurative  eye as emotionless observer while also reflecting the trials of life before it – and giving us  hope that beneath the presence of mindless authority, the depth of human experience remains.
