Purvis Young painted all of life as he saw it. And on this day, it is not a canvas that overflows with joy and vitality but rather a simple metal tray, providing a concise framework for this lovely portrait of a pregnant female in shadowed profile.  The background colors are infused with vibrant brushstrokes – the sun shines brightly and there are wisps of clouds mixed throughout.  This rare and simple masterpiece from the late 1970s/early 1980’s was well chosen during a visit to the artist’s studio and is signed in the upper right corner.
