Purvis Young believed the divine to be at the center of life.  And in this painting, the divinity anchoring the middle is green eyed – not with envy, but alive with a childlike joy and awareness matching the latent innocence of the baby crib headboard turned canvas. At first view, it seems a familiar portrait – a white angel with halo, around which the material world revolves. At it’s essence, however, the painting is a luxurious study in movement.  Here the spherical dominates – at the center,  two green eyes rest side by side, twin orbs at the center of a outwardly expanding set of concentric circles – the face, the halo and on to the outer edge – where Young renders structure, landscape and figures in kaleidoscopic upward symetrical perspective.
