In the discussion of spirituality in the context of the Purvis Young’s artwork, the presence of God, the divine, and the angelic are consistent elements throughout his narrative. In this striking creation, Young has rendered a day of the city in full bloom beneath the benevolent gaze of God – and his vernacular shines clearly –  people, trucks, landscape and community all abound in a soft wash of dynamic tones. The picture is stunningly self-framed and both signed and dated “ Young ’93 “ in the upper right hand corner (a rarity for Young to date from that year). The painting was exhibited at the late Leslie Muth Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico circa 1990’s, as evidenced by the label on verso.
