In the connection, there is power. In the joining, there is strength.  And in this dual perspective masterwork from the late 1980’s, Purvis Young explores the depths and limits of duality in an orgiastic communion of the spirit – paint drenched plexiglass, front and verso, sustain a restrained ambiguity couched in familiar vernacular of winged figures. Dual axis horizontal and vertical signatures, one in white and the other in black contribute equally as well. The work is an early example of Young’s innovative carpet frame technique – imbuing the work with a tactile and soft sculptural aesthetic while gently obscuring one signature as well.
