The horse as a symbol of freedom is foundational to the vernacular of Purvis Young.  In this latter 1980’s tour de force of dimensional fluency, Young classically positions these riderless equines mid canvas. Behind the horses, there are pastel hued shotgun shacks on a neighborhood street. A scattering of stars against a brilliant yellow sky imparts a veneer of the timeless. And in the primary dimension of view, a topographically rich landscape provides a visual runway to the panorama.  The painting features a hand hewn frame,  adding elements of assemblage to the construction and is signed upper right.
